My wife and I have been looking to build some new skills, and have always loved the 70s Ford pickup style. We recently found our dream truck on a local Craigslist, and pulled the trigger! She’s a 78 F250 Ranger XLT Camper Special with RWD, automatic transmission and a 460. Standard cab with an 8-foot bed. She spent the last few decades as a farm truck in Washington state, and although she looks great in the pics, she definitely needs some TLC to be drivable. The kids named her Dolores.

Our plan is to try to get her back in fully functional, reliable and safe running shape. Do as much as we can on our own, learn how to diagnose issues, take our time and do things right, project by project, building skills and confidence as we go. Hoping to reach out from time to time for some guidance.

Really excited to join the FTE community. Been browsing around for a while now -- you all have amazing knowledge! I guarantee that I will be asking some dumb questions, but it will never be from laziness. Thanks in advance...
I was reading twoodworth77 intro and realized their kids probably didn't know my truck has a name. Kids, this is Manny, from Manitowoc, WI.

FTE, what is the name if your vehicle? Where did the name come from?

This picture is after I started disassembly. When I drove into a friends driveway the first time, he laughed and said something to the effect " that truck looks like it should say Fred on one door and Lamont on the other!" That was in '95. He has been Fred ever since.

Good afternoon, just went back through several years of posts and watched Fred's progress. Amazing where builders start. Rusty old trucks, waiting for the right person to come along. Then, what great vehicles they end up with afterwards. I've only had my truck for a couple months, but it's already part of the family.

My wife laughs everytime she hears me talking to my Labs. After all these years it's more then, "sit, stay, and come here." We have rather lenghty conversations on road trips you know. I just hope she hasn't been listening in when I'm in the pole barn with Manny.

Tell Fred I sad hi.
