A mechanic showed me a trick that MAY work if the fuel pump is starting to go bad/sticking. While cranking the engine, have somebody bang on the fuel tank to see if the fuel pump MIGHT unstick. That got me 75 miles closer to the house one day... before it quit altogether. That pump started a loud buzzing a couple weeks before failing.

when you say check fuel pressure on a new edge do you mean an edge evolution? if so than yes you can check it with an edge product. you have a sensor on the fuel rail on the driver side. do you have a programmer?

thanks for the reply, someone once told me that 2004 new style f150's were called "new edge" and the 2004 old style f150's were called "heritage edition".....I have a new style 2004 5.4L 3 valve...the programmer that I used to retreive my codes is a superchips "flashpaq"...I only used it to get the codes, no new tune loaded into the truck yet....does anyone know what the fuel pressure should be on a 04' 5.4L 3valve?

i looked at an ad for the flashpaq and it said you can monitor the motor so i would think it has the AFRP (actual fuel rail pressure)

so I guess that today, when I finally found a way to plumb in a test guage, and it read 90+ psi that was bad right?? what the heck is goin' on......
I had the fuel line disconected from the fuel rail, had the feed/pressure line hooked up to the gauge and told my helper to turn the key to run the pump so I could see the pressure. he accidentaly turned the engine over and it started!!!!!!!!!It ran for close to a full minute before starting to spudder and I shut it off....where the heck was it getting the fuel to run on!!!!! the fuel line was unhooked from the fuel rail and hooked to the gauge!!!reading 90-100 psi!!!............is my regulator messed up??.....is it located in the tank with the pump??....more questions than answers thats for sure...at least it started, how it did it is beyond me....I put everything back together and it started up multiple times but I havnt been able to check the pressure with the fuel line hooked up correctly and truck running......

it just ran off the fuel already in the rail then started running out, 90+ sounds crazy to me. maybe in/lbs??? have you plugged the superchip in while running and look around in it? i have never used that programmer before so i cant help alot with that part.

that reading may be due to the fuel rail sensor was reading so low that the pump was trying to make up for it

no I havnt used the programmer to look around the system....maybe I will try that and see what it says.....I just tought it was strange that it went from not starting at all to starting accidentally with the pressure line disconnected...........I thought the injectors required pressure to fire??
I just checked my chilton manual...it says 35-45psi at idle....I need to be able to hook the gauge up and check it at idle or see if the programmer will tell me what it is at idle .....thanks for the input an help!!!!!

if you have 90 psi koeo I would stop looking at the fuel system, when you were checking fuel pressure did you disconnect some coils?
