Looks like a possible combination of rust and nitrate drop out with a little casting sand added. Goes back to what BBC has been saying. Flush and change coolant on an abbreviated schedule other than the factory recommendation. Since I drive only about 10,000 miles per year I will be doing the flushes every other year. Cheap ins. in my op.

So, did I do the flush wrong? Just flushed 5000 miles ago.
I followed the Coolant change 101, and flushed like 30 gallons of distilled through it after the VC-9.
The paper element doesn't show anything that looks bad. I have torn some of it out, and am letting it dry out for a few days to see what else could show up.

No, that's the purpose of the filter. Flushes don't get everything and the nitrate and casting sand fallout is an on going process due to heat/cooling cycles.
Is that coolant filter stock or an add on ? 2003 6.0 and never flushed.
- 50k miles on the F250. If so is there a topic on it here ?
Guess I missed a bigge here. Always do the fuel/oil service faithfully.
thanks,
Wayne

It is an after market coolant filter. Bought mine from Dieselsite. When I ordered it I bought four extra filters with it.
Do a search on coolant filters and there are plenty of topics about it. Or go to the dieselsite. Here is the link.

You are past due. 100,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes 1st. The recommended appears to be too long in practicality. If it took you 8 years to get 50,000 miles I would change the coolant every other year. Also the coolant filters are a/m.
I wonder what kind of junk is in your oil cooler now since you did the flush
Not sure, hopefully not much. My truck didn't have many miles on it when I bought it, 28,000, so doing the flush early in it's life may have been a blessing in disguise.
And following the advice from the good folks here to buy a coolant filter shortly after buying the truck was probably the best thing I could have done.
