Leaf Spring Problems

I was doing some work under my truck and noticed that two of the leaves in my driver side leaf spring are cracked... Was wondering if there is an easy fix or if there are compatible leaf springs from other years I could use? Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem. It looks like they're riveted in. How do I replace one and where do I get it?

look in your area for a spring shop, they are not expensive, if the one with the rivet is not broken you just pry the side of bracket out of the way

there is about a 2 inch section missing from one of mine and the remaining two pieces are riveted in.

is the solution the same thing - look for a spring shop?

yes replacing springs is about the same on all vehicles, as long as the main leaf is ok you can replace the broken ones right on the truck, you will need a good jack & some stands.

Be aware that if your truck has Flex-O-Matic rear suspension, the leaf springs are different lengths than without.

Please clarify "leaf springs are different lengths."

I've never seen leaf springs where they were all the same.

let's say you a leaf spring for one wheel, in that set of steal spring's the main one is longest, the one under it is a little shorter, then the one under that is a little shorter & so on till you get to the helper spring which is flat

The additional length has to due to the Flex-O's compensator. The spring is longer to accomodate it.

For those that have never seen Flex-O-Matic, it's illustrated here: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 55, Page 15.

Flex-O-Matic was also available on F250's.

OK, I thought you tried to post a link but messed up.

I have the set of shop manuals at home. I'll just check it out there.

Again, thanks.
