Rear turn signal problem

Hey Everyone,
I noticed that my left turn signal indicator started rapidly flashing as I was driving through the nasty snow storm that we got here in NJ on Sunday. I figured that it was just a blown bulb and it would be a quick fix. The left front light works fine, but the rear left does not light. I replaced the bulb twice with no luck. After a searching through the forums, I came across a guy who had a problem with the actual connector that the bulb seats into. I pulled that out and checked it with a multimeter for continuity and both terminals look good. I noticed that there was still a bunch of frozen snow up by the tow hitch wire harness. I'm thinking there might be something going on there. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might be onto something. I have a Fire and Ice LED bar and last winter it stopped working, but my turn signals still worked. I just haven't had time to probe around the trailer tow harness, but if the connector is packed with snow, the system might be sensing a higher draw and thinks your bulb is burned out. Quick question is are you sure the new bulbs are good. Try swapping the right and left bulbs and see if they work. So you have continuity, but do you have power when the right turn signal is on? I think you might have something with the trailer harness. I'm hoping to look at mine this weekend.

Thanks, Twinsdad. I feel like a total moron. I went out side to work on the truck this morning and opened up the right side to swap the bulb connectors and it did the same thing. As i activated the right blinkers, I realized my mistake. I was actually changing the reverse bulb instead of the turn signal bulb on the left side. Luckily, I had both sets on hand. I swapped the correct bulb and now all is well. I never realized that some of those bulbs have dual elements. I automatically assumed that it was the other bulb since I did see light coming from the top bulb. When I pulled the correct bulb out, I could see that one element was toast, but the other was intact. Lesson learned.

Yup, we have dual elements, one for brakes and one for turn signal and tail lights. Just glad you got it figured out and there was nothing else wrong with the truck.

just to let you know i think one is turn signal and brake and the other is running lights

glad to hear it was an easy fix because electrical crap can suck to have to fix.
