4X4 won't engage 2007 F150 XLT 5.4 SCREW

so its been cold out here and then it got warm one day so I washed my truck. now I'm having 4X4 problems, I don't know if washing the truck had anything to do with it. the 4X4 was working fine and then when I needed it, nothing no click, no light on hi or low. I checked all the fuses and I pulled the IWE but everything is checking out ok. anyone else having this problem? all I can find in a search is people saying that their hubs will lock while driving but that is not one of my symptoms. I did read that there is a motor on the transfer case that can get stuck. anyone having the same problems as me? any idea what to try next?

I've read that too, about the motor getting stuck. They say if you rap on it with a hammer or something it might free up. One guy said that the electrical connectors to it get coroded. You might check that too.

ok I tried hitting the motor with no luck. I pulled the connection apart and it was nice and clean. is there any fuses or relays under the hood I can check? and how do I check a relay?

If you don't use it on a regular basis, the contacts can corrode. It's not so much the connector as the motor itself. On my 04, I've had this issue numerous times. Try to put into 4x4 low. Drive around a little and switch it out. Then try 4X4 Hi. Just need to get into the habit of switching into HI from time to time. This has worked for me so far. (Knocking on wood)....

I was using 4x4 hi about once a week or more till it quit. I unbolted the motor and it does not move when I switch from 2 to 4 hi or 4 Lo. is there any fuses or relays I can check under the hood?

OK, so let's go back and start with the basics. I don't have a pin out, but I would check to make sure you have voltage to the motor, maybe your switch is bad. If you have power, jump the motor directly to battery (this is where you need to know pins so you don't toast your motor) If you don't have power, than yes, check the fuses, check the switch. Look at your owners manual to see which fues/relays are for the 4x4. Sometimes the motor uses the chassis for a ground, so maybe that's why it's not working.. But I like to keep things simple and supply power directly to the motor.

same issue

hey, dextreme. i'm having the exact same issue. it got really warm and wet out and then froze again, and i also had to get my truck boosted. now it won't even attempt to engage. and i used it all the time, so i'm sure it's not ceased. checked all the fuses... all good. did you find the solution to your problem? it's been a while, so i'm guessing you have! i'd really appreciate it.
