as far as the wood bed goes, my friend tom is doing his with 1x6 trex type decking material. it should last for a very long time, if not forever! only cost him 60 bucks.
I think you came out on top of the deal.... everyone has a jeep! I can't wait to see your improvments on it!
AAAhhhhh. Composite decking material....Perfect Idea. Could even use the grooved one for traction. Non slip and virtually indestructable. Post some pics when hes done, or will there be a write up? I will definately consider that.
I assure you it photographs well. Rattle can inside and out. From 15 feet it looks perfect though.
No write up by Tom... he does not own a computer or does he want to, he has got to be in his mid 70's lol he does have about 8 61-66 trucks though! and 3 or 4 f1's, i have been helping him with his 48 f1. he just got it back from paint, ya gotta have friends like that when you need parts!
Although I am no expert, from what I can see of your floor pan it looks to be a 65 or 66 model year cab. I would double check the VIN it has on the title.
Isn't that a '65 or '66 cab by virtue of the steering column mount? I thought '64 and earlier had that drop thigamajig to mount the steering column to. Regardless, nice truck!
Welcome to FTE! And Im sorry to say but IMHO you shoulda kept your Jeep! And I hope you got some cash plus the truck in your trade! Because that truck isnt even close to being worth the same as your Jeep.
Post your Warranty data numbers' if a 62 model it will be a data plate on the inside of your glove box door; or 64-66 style on the inside of your driver door. Having a different front grille doesn't change much in my opinion; just though I would let you know!
Love the truck more than the jeep anyday!!!!
How many digits would the warranty data number be? Everything is in spanish. Also the transfer case has the VIN stamped in it?
I have been doing little things while waiting for title to come back. Trying to register a truck from another country in Florida is frustrating, to say the least. I relocated the aftermarket shifter to a more user friendly spot. I also got rid of the cheesy fake carbon fiber "T" handle and went with brass knuckles. Not really brass, some kind of stamped steel from China.
Added headlight adjusting screws and got most of the lights functioning. Still need reverse lights and brake light switch. Thinking of putting a pressure type switch in the brake plumbing somewhere. I did get to take it for a ride and it did pretty well, considering there is no exhaust on it and it is loud. Couldn't tell if people were looking at the truck, or the noise.
I tried the washer under the hood hinge trick, and it helped some. There is a small link in the hinge that pulls the two parts while raising or lowering. I managed to get that hooked back up, but it still sits a little high in the back.
Now its time to find some tires and rims for a decent price and a dual exhaust system. I would like to find headers, but will probably have to go custom made. The quad shock system and the driveline aren't very out of the box header friendly.
welcome.
great looking truck.
As former cj-7 owner I think you will be much happier with the Ford.
Since i sold my 7 - hopped up 304, headers, lifted, i have bought a '74 Bronco that is now my v-8 toy - 302, also lifted, headers, etc. and just added a '61 uni-body. Love the Fords!!!
jeeps are nice - old Fords are UNIQUE!

Well said...My CJ was really a Ford in disguise. 289/ 9"/ T-18.
Well I can cross exhaust off my list.
I took it to a local guy here in town and got a Y pipe into a single large round muffler that exits under the passenger side in front of the rear wheel.
Since I can hear better what is going on now mechanically, I noticed timing was way off. Did a little searching and found #4 and #7 plug wires were swapped. Corrected that and what a difference. I can also hear an exhaust leak at the manifold, so new gaskets are in order. Also got valve cover gaskets as one is leaking.
Took it for a short ride to the store and when I came back out it wouldn't turn over. Barely had the cables hooked up and it took a jump right away. Next morning tightened all battery connections and it held a charge for a day. Then the same thing happened again. Found no ground on the alternator, and the wire to the stator was off and hanging there. Hooked all that up. Charged the battery and went for a ride. Smelled gas and looked down at the puddle forming at my feet and found a broken fuel line.
Even after all that, I don't miss my Jeep at all.
