Just bought 2000 F-150 v-6 auto 2 weeks ago . 3 times this week there is nothing inany gear. If I shut it off, 3rd time I start it , works proper, seems to shift right . First auto trans. for me. Had 86 300 4-speed for 13 years, traded it for 96 300 5 - speed which I still have. Any ideas on why nothing there - forward or reverse?
Yes fluid is full, does smell ok. It has been down around 0 Far. But times it didn`t work was warm, drove while , shut off 1/2 hr. to 2 hrs. I have started it 2 mornings at 15 below, warmed up 15 min. & drove away no problem. Checked with dealer today, never heard of problem before. 58700 km, - 60 000 km warranty but is 5 months too old for 3 - year plan. Toyota dealer where I bought it is going to take a look at it tomorrow, they said it will probably have to go to Ford dealer . They said used vehicles are 50/50 warranty for 30 days so that will help. I suppose might be electical problem ?
i've had this happen to me just a couple times. most of the time if i just put it back in gear it would go. not 3 times ina week, though. if you can get tsb info that might give you a clue as to whats goin on with it. you can go to http://alldata.com and pay 20 bucks a year for all tsb's. or maybe talk to somebody at a local trans shop. you think the trans filter has been changed yet? i would change it first.
Dealer checked out last week and said only problem was one litre low. Worked good util yesterday when it failed twice. I took it back & electronics checked okay. They changed fluid & filter which looked good. Okay sofar today but who knows how long?
Several things come to mind. Low fluid, clogged filter, shift linkage, stuck valve.
You've already checked the fluid and filter, and the stuck valve would require a tear down or computer diag., check the linkage.
On my not-ford truck, there was a lever on a splined shaft that the shifter rod connected to at the tranny. The bolt came loose and the lever slipped a little on the shaft. Because of that, it never went into gear all the way.
