motor's +-1000lbs.
Many power upgrades available, injectors, etc.. won't need rebuild of any kind unless going for MAJOR power
Hp is 215 I think and tq is 425 or so I think
To swap tranny I think you'd need a donor truck with pedals, etc.. quite a few guys have done the E4OD to zf5 swap on here.

You got the wiring harness, pcm, and everything?

Also our speedo works off the rear end so I don't know how the bus is set up, it may run off the tranny, not sure. I also don't know if you have room for the turbo or you may need to clearance the firewall, just a thought.

thatnks for the info so far, the motor is only a couple hundred pounds heavier than a full dressed old school 460, the trucks going in is already a stick so i may only need to rig up a hydrolic clutch, i've also been told the older zf-5s are cable speedos, yes it comes with allison trans, industial turbo, pcm with micro chip, down pipe, intercooler w/pipes, radiator and stand alone harness-uses 8-10 wires to run whole setup.. my buddy runs a heavy truck salvage yard... he cuts the body off and chops the frame behind the tranns...

The older cabs had a weakness wrt. the hydraulic clutch; the firewall would flex with pedal pressure, so it wouldn't fully disengage the clutch. Fixed in '93-ish; you may have to reinforce the firewall in that '78 cab. In fact, you'll probably have to fab up the hole and the mount for the hydraulic m/c, since I'm sure all the clutches from that vintage used that god-awful linkage system.

So what speedo/dash are you gonna use? The one that's in the cab now? I'm thinking that even if you get an earlier ZF5 mated up, and the speedo cable to work, you may still need the VSS in the pumpkin; it's an input to the PCM, and without a speed signal, the PCM might just say .

yea didn't think clutch setup would be to hard... reinforceing the firewall not a bad idea 70's fords sheetmetal are 60% rececyled material, hence the rust issues in mostof themm, as for the rear end sensor i'm not sure the busses have them, some how bypassed??? will see if any of the bus rear ends still in the yard and check 4 sensor... may use modified sensor setup on tranny output, may be an issue i think espescilly if can't transfer some how....local shop can do mechanical speedo with any ends i need but not sure if electric to mechical poss....looks like a trip to the salvage yard...

or 5

1-how much does this beast weigh?????

920lbs dry roughly

2-what kinda power upgrades are availible without a complete engine overhaul...

injectors, HPOP other bolt ons

3-what kinda hp/tourgue numbers does this thing put out in stock form????

444e internaionals were between 175hp-230hp with different torque ratings, possibly found on your right side valve cover.

International T 444E Specifications

Powerstrokes typically had higher power ratings but lower torque ratings.

7.3L Power Stroke Specs

4-how hard is it to swap a zf-5 in place of the allison auto its got on it now???

pretty sure you need the adapter plate for a ford zf-5, these engines were backed with different types of trannies and were interchanged mostly by the adapter plate

5- what parts would that reqiure??

Adapter plate, flywheel comes to mind, fab up some engine mounts so on and so on.

Side note, if the engine is blue, its not a poerstroke engine but a 444e engine, but both the engines are nearly identical, the difference in power ratings is typically the ECM and the software that supports the power rating. Also, if I recall, the 444e engines have some nice injectors in them to start, at least bigger then what our powerstrokes come with because of the higher torque ratings.

not totally sure if its a true power stroke and not the 444e.. althought the e model is still a consideration it seems the better setup that gets me more bang for the buck...i'd like to hear about some of the mods you guys have done and the kinda power your getting....i found a banks turbo with an exhaust brake in it but its for the cummins, is it availible for the 7.3???? and theres a rumor down at our truck shop that the powerstroke was availioble with jake brakes on heavy service apps but has anyone even heard of this???? i can't find info anywhere....

iread the specs on both engines now i know i need to go back to the salvage yard ton see if i'm right... the more i read the more it seems it may be the 444e instead of the powerstroke... it may not be blue but that doesn't mean anything couple cans o paint changes that...is there anyway to bump up the rev limiter or is higher revs a bad idea...
