Strictly speaking, the new Coyote 5.0 engine is not a modular engine. The only thing the two have in common is their bore spacing; according to Ford, that was necessary to minimize changes in the engine machining lines. But just about everything else is different.
Test drove a 2011 f-150 FX4 crew 5.0 w/3.73 gears yesterday. The wife and I really liked it and we are wondering what kinda of MPG you guys are getting with the trucks. No really city driving at all mostly county roads with the cruise most of the time set.
I have a 5.0 CC with the 3.55 gears. After 8 months of driving and 10,000 miles, according to the on board computer, I am getting 15.6 mpg with the majority of my driving being hilly backroads (We dont even bother with the highways).
Took my new 4x4, 3.55 Screw with 200 miles on the odometer for a 500 mile trip to and through the winding small Ozark mountain in north central AR. The truck was getting just over 20mpg on the less hilly two lanes driving 55-62, 19 mpg at 72 on the interstate.
Mileage for the entire trip down due to the frequent steep sections when the tranny dropped to 4th climbing, small town cruising and use of tow/haul on some downgrades.
I do a lot of highway at 65mph going to work and back. At the end of 4 days, I'm tipping 21mpg, and after being off for a week and putting around town (couldn't do that with my diesel) it's at 19.1...On the same tank...I love my 5.0
