I have an 87 F-150 with a 5.0 EFI. About 6 years ago I put headers on it with true dual exhaust. I did not hook the O2 sensor up, there was no place to screw it in. The engines has run really rich since. Now I am having flooding issues, I can smell the fuel right away. My questions is:
Should I disconnect the O2 sensor, right now I just have it connected and hanging free in the back of the engine?
Should I extend the wire and drill my exhaust out down stream of my collector and connect the O2 sensor?
Or should I just leave the sensor connected and hanging?
I have had exactly same question when adding full lenght headers in my 1989 5.0 F-150.
Wath a technician toldme was to put the O2 sensor at the collector on each header and to wire them bouth together, I assume it gives a more acurate reading since bouth headers send info in to te computer therefore the variation is minimal and acuracy is enanced.
So far so good, truck is runing quite well and no major problems with fuel ratio nor fuel consumption.
On the other hand headers has bring some life in to my truck.
