Thanks for the welcomes and the ideas!

I am confused about what is actually wrong...did you break the bottom of the pump off in the hole or did you pull the pump out and the lifter/pushrod fell in the motor?

after reading this a lil while ago.. went out and got pump out and it was broken identical to the one pictured earlier.. 99% sure that the oring was catching up on some built up crap in the bore and just hanging

The bottom of the fuel pump has broke off flush with the crank case. The fule pump is out but cannot get the nipple out of the crank case that holds the tappet. I tried to crank the motor (not by hand) and it didnt even budge...any suggestions on how to get that out of the crankcase hole?

HOLD on man! Don't even sneeze! This has never happened to me before....but I am sure it has happened to others just sit tight. Someone will help you out.
It sounds to me the tappet has fallen already. DON'T crank it any more.

X2 on Copedawg's comment. if you can see the push rod sticking up then you know you are ok, for now. if not then it is in the motor somewhere. Until someone who has fixed this issue chimes in I would soak the piece with PB or what ever continuously until you get the answer. Don't crank the motor.
