I HATE California **SMOG**

Hey guys I need some help. My 99 7.3L failed Smog yesturday for two reasons: 1. no catalytic converter and 2. service engine light.

My 99 definately came with a cat (production date 11/98). The guy I bought it from two years ago must have taken it off when he put the exhaust on it.

The service engine light is from the Edge I have. It is putting out the common code that I can't remember right now. It's because of the boost.

I'm not too worried about the engine light (easily fixable) but I am really concerned about the cat. Ford wants $2300 for a new one so that is NOT an option. Does anybody have one that they are willing to part with or know where I can pick up one from a yard. I have not found any CARB legal cats for the 7.3L.

Thanks Guys

You cant get a CAT from a junk yard they are illegal to re-sell. Your best bet is to find a friend with one you can barrow. Where are you in Cali??? We have alot of 7.3 peeps in Ca.

That sucks. 2300 dollars for a cat should be robbery. Who do they expect to purchase one. Check with Magnaflow they may make a 50 state legal cat for your truck.

Just did, looked up a few "cat" systems, all were tagged, not for CA. pollution control.

Dont quote me, but just read, that most smog places will fail it, due to the "new weld" or hanger clamps, leads them to believe, its been altered....not sure chief, which road to take

I live in Southern California near the Lancaster/Palmdale area in a small town called California City. I don't know anybody else with a 99' 250 diesel in the area. I'm really at a loss for what to do. Talked with the CARB and they pretty much said that the truck is useless unless you put a cat on it. I can't freaking believe that. I hate this stupid state. I don't know what the hell to do.

That's robbery. I wonder if California will ever wake up.
I'm moving to Nevada in February and can't wait to get outta' here.

Got a late notice today for registration of my '07 F-250 and they tagged on $308. Getting it registered next week in Lovelock, NV for much less.

The "Golden State" to me (after 56 years) is soon to be in my rear view mirror.

check Craigslist. Cats for 6.0s come up all the time. You are going to have to find somewhere to weld it in. That's your best bet

Maybe check with a muffler shop and see if you can get them to weld a different cat The shops doing the smogs dont check that careful to see if its the right cat. Its worth a try.

Good luck. A shop in CA that does that, risks losing their license.

Ok ive figured it out, Buy a cat ship it to another member out of california and then have them ship it to you and then you just have to weld it up. That should work.
Then your only spending like a hundred bucks
