My mechanical just went bad. It's spraying a nice pattern out the weep hole.
I planned on making a nice electric fuel system for it when I am done rebuilding my other engine but I don't have the money for all of that right now.
I was wondering if I can run the super duty electric pump while keeping the stock fuel filter bowl on the truck right now. I have a new Ford pump but all the other parts, regulators and filters are what adds up the price real fast. Has anyone done this?
You will blow the lid off the filter bowl. They are not designed for the pressure the SD pump puts out. Mech pump probably pumps 4-8 psi to filter housing then the piston pumps raises it to 45-65 psi with shim. The housing does not see this pressure. Just get a new Carter pump at auto zone and be done with it. Jeep
They don't have a carter pump at auto zone. I just checked their website and called. Just an airtex now. I guess I will order a ford one from parts guy ed but I was hoping I could use the SD pump.
Now I see what you guys are talking about with the carter pumps. Apparently Carters foundry is making the castings. That's it. Airtex, Bosche, delphi and probably others are machining them and installing the parts. Thats where the big difference in how long it will last comes in. I used to machine crank shaft castings for two different companies that I won't even mention that were in two totally different engines. One had specs so loose they wouldn't have cared if it had gouges in it. The other would send back entire truckloads for a .0005 out of spec journal. That can be the difference of measuring it at our 70 degree shop temp or their 30 degree hop temp.
I'll just get the ford one. This one lasted 17 years.
