Can anyone in this forum tell me, (before I start tearing things apart), if the external(bellhousing mounted) hydraulic clutch slave cylinder from a mid-80's truck will attach directly to the hydraulic line from a later(mid 90's) master cylinder?
I'm preparing to supplant my deceased 5spd. with a SROD 4spd. I don't know if this will be permanent or temporary, but finances have left me little choice in order to get back on the road quickly and cheaply. The 4spd is from and '81, and had a mechanical linkage. I'm thinking that a later 80's bellhousing, bracket, fork and slave cyl would be cheap and plentiful in the salvage yards, but don't know if I'd also need the master and pedal from the same vehicle to make it work or not. I don't want to do anything that can't be easily reversed if I get the 5spd replaced/rebuilt when money allows. Also, is the ZF better than the Mazda, and would it be hard to install behind my 300 I6?
There was a change in the MC design - early ones push a different amount of fluid than later ones, but I don't remember which pushes more. havack recently did a swap and ran into this problem, so you can ask him.
