Exclamation no oil pressure at idle

i have a customers vehicle in the shop that is complaining of a oil pressure gauge going to zero.diag.-checked for a missing/damaged stop drain valve inthe filter housing.checked base oil pressure regulator for stuck condithion.installed manual gauge,0 psi at idle,45 psi at 2500 rpm.i have heard of a plug in the back of the block blowing/coming out.can anyone lend a hand to if this issue is true.the truck started doing this instantly.has been running fine.no codes.oil is clean and full.no metal in the filter.thanks.

If oil pressure is actually zero on the 6.0, the engine stops running.

Because oil pressure is needed to fire the injectors.

You probably got a bad sensor or bad wiring.

Do you have the IDS?

The oil pressure switch is here: Page 25: Lubrication System . It's probably the switch itself gone bad OR the wiring connector. It's just a one wire grounded switch that powers the idiot needle in the dash. The gauge only takes 7.5 psi to put it in the "normal" range. FYI--the swith is the same as a 7.3 if you've got one. Connector is motorcraft # wpt439.

i have a actual manual gauge on it.have checked it with 2 diff. ones. it is the base oil pressure system that has the concern not the high pressure system for the injectors.

If it's an 03 or 04 engine the HPOP has a ball plug in the pump that can blow out. Rethreading the hole for a pipe plug has worked. Sorry I misread the pressure you posted.

Right --- I misread it too... didn't see it was a manual gauge.

Probably the plug... I don't have that problem on the 05...

has a wix 57312 tall filter.the truck has went 500 miles sence i put a oil and egr cooler on it with no problems.how would a missing plug in the hpop cause base oil pressure to be low.wouldnt it set a low icp pressure code.fixin to take a vacation ,first one in 20 years, havnt done anything else yet.will get back to it after the new year.

I've been finding the aftermarket filters with the replacement caps built on have a problem with the bottoms of the filter warping, not letting the valve at the bottom of the housing close all the way. That creates a "leak", if you will, not letting oil pressure build completely. You see the lack of pressure at idle mostly. You still get enough oil to fire the injectors, but not enough to build oil pressure at the guage. Replacing the filter and cap with OEM solved these issues.

I agree with Vloney. A/M filters have caused many problems with the 6.0. I can't guarantee that's your problem but I would absolutely start with a 20 dollar filter and that way your safe.
