looking for some engine swap opinions

OK, so i have a 2000 ext. cab 4x4 with the 3.0 flex fuel motor, recently had a small fire from the headlights that require a new engine bay harness which is about 450.00$.
my question is this to get her running again i have to replace a few things (all plastic) that melted in the fire.
ALL that said here is the question... is it worth it to just fix what was and i assume still is a good 3.0 or should i just swap out to a 4.0 SOHC ? i dont think i want to go to the 5.0 just because it involves a litle more home engineering than i want to. i really just want to maintain the factory reliability i do pull a trailer regularly but the 3.0 handled it ok so im thinking the 4.0 would be great.
OK guys gimme your best info. and thanks in advance for any help and expierienced opinions.

I am looking at purchasing a 2000 with the 3.0 engine for my great Niece, folks here say the '99 and '00 4.0s have problems in marbelizing (sp) and I have absolutely no idea what this means but I will stay away from those.
That said perhaps a later 4.0 would be ok-I don't know.
I would think you could get your newer 4.0 from a salvage yard along with wireing to swap into your truck-I have no idea if your trans will fit the 4.0 or if you will need to swap mounts or anything else.....

Fix what was, you'll be ahead in the long run, changing engines is not fixing the problem it's creating other problems.

Fix the problem you have.
