37" Hummer tires

I know this has been dicussed a couple times in the past but has anyone recently bought any of these recently or run them for awhile? I really like the idea of them and am considering buying a set.
Thanks

I like to have a set around to use as a street tire or long distance trip tire to save my more aggressive treads. I think they're a step above an all-terrain in offroad use. In the past, I've gotten 40k out of a set that started with 75-80%. I think they're an awesome tire to keep around just in case, especially considering the price.

Thats exactly the reason why I'd like to have a set. Also now that its getting colder we take the 40" off since they flat spot easy and thats annoying. I have a set of steel wheels that I believe are the factory width which have 9.50-16.5 on them now. I want to put those 37x12.50's on them but I'm not really sure how wide my steel rims are. Any ideas?

I run them on 16.5x9.75 steelies. As for factory width, I thought the widest the factory went was 8.75", but I suppose I could be wrong.

Hmm I was thinking these werent that wide and I'm sure they aren't. I have a feeling they are around 8". The Ultra's in my avatar are 9.75" and my steelies are near as wide. I hope they aren't something like 7".

Is a 12.50 ok to run on a 8" rim?

Yeah...I'd almost recommend a narrower rim width with 16.5" rims for better bead tension. I wouldn't go any narrower than 8" though.

Ok. I'm going to have to check it out. Thanks for the info.

If anyone has some more pics with these mounted I'd like to see them. I did a search and found a thread from '09 that had a couple pics but that was it.

To narrow a rim will round the side walls and give a real bad wear pattern, especially on the front end. As far as a 16.5 rim you will be ok as long as you do not air down much and wheel to hard.

But it sounds like they will be a winter only set up, so you should be ok. And for the price, 90% tread @ $200 ish for 4 right? You can't beat the price IMO.

The radial 37's are alot better than the bias ply 36's, again IMO.

If I pre order a 90 % set (4) plus get a spare I can get them in Ks for $300, guess I'm lucky. Ck out any DRMO (Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service) sale around any military base, that's where my guy gets his 36's, 37's, + H-1 runflat rims and sometimes Michelin XML's. (38x16)

5 MILITARY TIRES 37/12.50-16.5 HUMMER HUMVEE HMMWV - eBay (item 110579937524 end time Dec-28-10 03:43:44 PST)

These are way nice than ones I found earlier and have the freight factored in. I think it would be hard to beat this price.

He probably gets them out of Ft Hood or Ft Bliss, still to much to me, get together with some buddies and pool your money and buy a load of them at a DRMO sale.

I just got a well used set with old white spoke rims for 100, I'm still lucky.

There's a surplus around me in NC thanks to all the bases...but here's another online resource:

yea I'm not going to rush into anything yet. I do have a relative that may be able to get them for me since he has access to that kind of stuff we just aren't sure about tires.

Thanks 704 Dentside Man I'll keep that guy in mind also. It really makes me wonder why there is so many of these tires taken off practically new?
