Effect of leaking up-pipes on EBPV brake

I've not used it a lot, but I've not been impressed with my decel tune from DP-tuner. I know the EBPV is closing, but it doesn't seem to do much.

I've noticed that my up-pipes are starting to leak some, as there are small soot stains where the pipes enters the fitting at the top. How much would this leak affect the performance of the brake?

I'm having a hard time swallowing a $400 price tag on 4' of pipe, and looking for any potential benefit I can find.

Thanks,

Mark

I tow a 9000# 5er and use the decel tune even on flat terrain. When I want to stop or slow I just switch out of O/D and into decel. I think that the decel tune alone is worth the price of the chip. Just my .02.

I've heard lots of folks say similar things, but it doesn't seem to do much on mine. (More than nothing, but you can't really feel it when you turn it on.) I'm wondering if I'm losing pressure in the up-pipes, and lessening the brake's ability to work.

What are your rpm's when you turn it on? The braking effect is les effective at lower rpm's.

Bump

I just installed the DP chip with the decel tune and I am curious about the affects on my up pipes. I too dont want to spent $400+ on new pipes.

To the OP, from what I have read the brake works better at higher RPM's. What rpm are you running yours at??

If you are having leaks, you are losing pressure to the turbo. Higher EGT and lower boost and fuel economy would be an issue, I would think.

If the decel tune isn't locking your torque coverter, as it should, there will be very little engine braking effect.
