hey i have a 92 bronco that i want to change the stock gears out for a 4.11 or something along those lines cause right no i have the stock gears and run 33x9.5x15. i could use some extra power but would it be cheaper to just go down tire size to 32s if that would make a big difference, it is my daily driver and i like to hunt and off-road, also i need fairly good gas mileage i don't want to lose more than 2 mpg. so any advise would be great guys. also i am looking at getting a daystar leveling kit 2 inches so i could run 33s if i get the 4.11s either way im getting the leveling kit if it is recommended (just thought id throw that in). thanks for looking
Definitely agree with making the swap to 4.11's. (And yes the D44 ratio is 4.10:1 and the 8.8 ratio is 4.11:1). Personal experience says that making the move to 33's without re-gearing causes the E4OD to "hunt" furiously between 35-45 mph. So 3-4 shift point hunting gets pretty silly and passing/hill climbing power suffers tremendously.
another quick question how much would it cost ruffly if i have a mechanic do it but i buy the part or would it be easier to let the mechanic do everything for me. what would be the cheapest way of doing that.
thanks for the advice
depends on what the shop adds for markup. if you get all the right parts no reason why a qualified shop couldnt do the install. Shop around though and ask a few local 4x4 clubs who they recommend. be carful of chain shops like 4wp for instance.
Lazy techs and run-of-the-mill installation practices. Typical chain-store issues. Remember, it only takes one sloppy gear setup to turn $200 worth of gears into $20 of scrap metal.
