One small question and my new project "the ultimate sin" :D

I was tired of the hacked up gray ranger i had so i went to the dark side and bought a gmc, but now that i blew up the smallblock and im tired of mudding with a 4spd stick i came up with a great idea, putting a 460 under the hood of a gm product.

My question is my 2wd c6 is out of a 72 torino and it did not come with a driveshaft, are the splines the same from car/truck?

Right now the plan is a mild 460,c6 and a divorced 205 going to a set of 2.5ton gmc style axles on tractor tires about 42-44 inches tall, would have went with toploaders but gmcs are cheaper and i wanna run the least amount of lift as possible

here is a short vid of it from this past season, nothing fancy just a 6" lift and some used 35s on a 14bolt rear, 44 front.

everything i found points to 31 splines on all of the c-6 slip yokes.

and all i can say is right the **** on!!!!!! i'd love to see a bbf in a chevy mudder. i always wanted to do that to a chevelle or nova just to **** people off. i'm tired of seeing sbc's in everything. be sure to post pics and videos.

there was a late 70's vete here a few years back with a 460 and top loader 4 speed in it. it was built purposely to pee off he chevy in old ford folks.
it actually would walk all over the 427 vets on the race track

I hate engine swaps between makes. It seems like there are always goofy problems that will always plague you.

IE...
oil pan - sump placement in relation to crossmembers
radiator hose - most Chebbys have opposite top/bottom hose placement from Fords.

this is just two small issues that I could come up with after working 16hrs last night. Im sure Ill come up with more. Besides are 77.5-79 F250s that hard to find in your area?

I live in the land of rust, looked at a lot of 70s fords before i got that gmc, fords were either a skeleton held together with rust or they wanted an arm and a leg for it.

Locally I could probably count how many 70s ford 4x4s running around on my fingers and not even need to take my shoes off. and I can only think of 1 F250 in the years you mentioned rest are F150s. there are a few more 2wd but not even a lot of those.

there is a simple way to find old fords. i seriously find them all over without even trying. i guess it all depends where you live, but anywhere there is a farm house there is almost certainly always a 70's ford 3/4 ton on the property somewhere. there are a couple within a stones throw of me that i need to go check out to see what they have for running gear cause me needs a d60 for the bronco. and remember, just because there isn't a for sale sign on it doesn't mean ****. it never hurts to ask, most will sell an old truck just to get something more than scrap price out of it.

within a 10 mile distance of me, i know of only 7 70's ford pickups. 2 150 2 wheel drives, 4 250's, and 1 350 dually with a wrecker body on it.

and 3 of the f-250's are mine

Dan that is the problem, when scrap went up to almost $200/ton a LOT of those got crushed. Local junk yard had 20+ 70s fords (and even more chevs and some dodges) he has zero now. in 1 shot he crushed around 1000 vehicles. The scrappers know the same thing you do and have been hitting farms up for any and all metal including old cars. I know of one farmer that had every car he had ever bought sitting out in the fence row, some scrapper came in and offered him $10k and the farmer took the money. He had cars clear back into the 40s sitting out there. Now nothing but a nice shiney new fence.

I know the above mentioned junk yard owner fairly well. and when he crushed those cars HIS take after paying the crusher and the trucking was almost $400k

around me they are all still sitting on farms, but the yards did cash in. the prices still got inflated from it though. i just saw an old rusty highboy on c/l for $5k. i don't think i'd pay 5k for a highboy unless it had some serious potential. you used to be able to pick up good runners for a grand or less.

i saw people driving trucks into the scrap yards, pulling the plates off the trucks, pocketing the 6-7 hundred bucks they were getting, and getting in the wifes car to go home, cause the scrap price on said trucks was more than they were worth.
i also saw at least a dozen 60's John Deere dozer's brought in for the $2000 they brought over the scales.
70's and 80's tandem dump trucks were paying on average $2800. in one week, the local scrap yard took in over 50 trucks besides the dozer's and old excavators.
i ran an old 235 cat over the scales. it ran, but the boss said $10,000 to get rid of it or $5000 to fix it up was a no brainer.
