a little search help? tailshaft seal? doghouse removal?

i've done a diligent search and can not find a thread (i know i've seen several) on the bolts to remove the doghouse on a '49 f1. i'm also wondering if there is a rear removable seal on the tailshaft of the transmission. getting ready to put the driveshaft back in (ford 9" with 3.50 gears in, woo hoo) and move on to make the truck look pretty. thanks, dick r.

By "doghouse" do you mean the floor plate over the trans? It's just a bejillion sheet metal screws.

Yes, there is a replaceable seal on the tailhousing. P/N 21C-7052-A

NAPA carries it, as I recall.

Edit: nope, NAPA doesn't show it, Dennis C does

The seal dimensions are: 2.378" OD, 1/2" ID - 3/4" deep according to the Parts CD, but that ID doesn't seem right. I bet it should be 1-1/2", measure your driveshaft. Someone can match yours if it has a National Seal or Chicago Rawhide (CR) number on it.

Doghouse typically refers to an inside engine cover, like found on a van or cabover truck. Your front fender, etc., assembly would be the nose or front clip. (not to be confused with the term as used by front frame/suspension swappers)

The front clip comes off by removing the bolts at the runningboard to fender, two at the rear edge of the inner fender apron, one at the top to the cowl, one at the bottom to the frame, (on a 52, the lower bolt also attaches to cowl, not to frame) and the three on each side under the fender through the apron to the radiator support. Thee's a few wires to unplug, as well, but that's all that holds the front end on.
