Exclamation 97 f150 auto tranny problems

so my tranny shot ****s in my 97 f150. (it is the 14 bolt pan) i have never rebuilt an auto but i decided to dive into it. new solenoids, complete rebuild kit, and new toruq conerter. got it back in and now i have no reverse. also when i put the shifter into 2nd position it stalls the engine. and when i drove it around the block to test it, it seemed to run through the gears very fast. I have no idea where to start so if any one has any pointers that would be great. just need to get her going again.

Man, it has been a while since I have tore in to an automatic and last time I did it was a TH700R4 chevy, but I can remember them being real finicky about the tolerances in the clutch packs. Sometimes the rebuild kits will not get you the right measurements so you have to swap out a steel with one thicker or thinner, depending on the set up. If they aren't right it can leave the shift feeling sloppy if there is too much room, or hard if there is not enough.
Timing would all be based on the governor, if it is not all electronic now, but the abnormal gear selection would point to sticking valves. Cleanliness is going to be the major factor here. Once there is a failure, many times metal shavings are circulated through the system making it a real nightmare to get to it all. Each valve should removed and checked for scoring. They can be damaged by overheating and shavings and or clutch material. If there is any binding of the valves in the bores, you will have trouble.
Good luck with it...that's all the $.02 I have.

I think perhaps it is,but only to a certain extent.Im sure my 07 tranny is much more"techniclal" related.I had no idea that the throttle system is "fly by wire" until a buddy of mine told me it likely was...It has rapidly come to the point that about the only thing an owner can do maintenance wise is plugs, and oil change.Thankfully,my 07 does not have the infamous two-piece plugs!
