460 w/47,000 miles

I am thinking of buying a 1995 E-350 Four Winds, 29', M/H with a 460 engine. It has 47,000 miles on it. Would I be ok to travel around the US? Any info on this would be helpful. If it wont do then I don't want to buy it. It's $12,000.00. Oh yeah, I have a 2001 Ranger XLT 4x4 w/ a 4.0L Pulls my restored 1964 18' Glasspar Seafair Sedan nicely.

ask if the fuel pump was upgraded to the 1997 spec,, pre 97 gave big problems,, add a trans cooler and ur good,, i have a 92 f53, not a big fan of the that trans e4od, i want to swap in a C6,, yeah u lose the overdrive but i just don't trust that e4od sht trans, expect 7miles per gallon,, thats why mine sits lol,, I put a wood stove in mine superb heat lol, its a converted rv once was a police swat truck its built on the f53 motorhome chassis iv done tons of homework on the f53,, all the vin# start with the f53 as first digits, as the engine 460 efi its been a proven workhorse in 98 they went with the v10 "garbage motor", oh yeah check the exhaust manifold bolts big problem on them snapping,, i have a set of banks headers still have to put them on they are super pricey but that cures that problem,,,, go to www.rv.net tons of info,,,

Thanks for the info. What do the banks headers cost and where did you get them?

i got lucky on the Banks bought them from ebay from a guy who sold the MH and never installed, the Thorelys brand are cheaper but ok i guess, the Banks are stainless and have the flanges not kidding about an inch thick, ask Banks if they could just sell you the headers, i paid 800 for the headers and crossover. the bank kits for the f53 are about 2 grand,,,, i would look into a 96-97 F53 as the quirks in the e4od were sort of fixed the trans got a better centersupport bearings and a higher output oil pump in the trans for better lubing,, when taking the exhaust manifolds off you have to be REAL carefull as you don't want to break the bolts, they are on there very snug i ended up breaking only one had to tap it out,

I had a 94 E-350 16' box truck for work, and it was a beast. The trans went out at 100K and the fuel pump at 150, other than normal maintance it was awesome. I sold it at 188K miles and it was still going strong.

It seemed to get 8mpg no matter how I drove it in the city, and a little better on the hwy.

The exhaust manifold bolts are well known for breaking off in the head, I had 3 broken and never touched it.

I wouldn't worry about the motor/tranny, if the rest is to your liking, go for it!

Thanks, Dave. I think I will get it. It's 29' long and the inside is in very good shape. It started right up.

yeah should be a good rig,but the fuel pump problem was a biggie, in a hot day it'll hit,, the impellers in the pump fail when hot, with that low mileage doubt its been converted to the 97 spec,, no mechanic is going to drop that 75 gallon tank for under $400,, i got rid of that whopper of a tank( its a $3000 fuel tank) don't beleive me go price one from ford mine was getting a little rusty so i priced it,,, put in a 40 gallon polyuethene plastic fuel tank with two outside mounted fuel pumps,, like the old econoline vans had, just the low pressure pump is now also outside the tank. the first pump is a 4psi the other a 40 psi, so no need to drop the tank in case of pump failure, simple 5 minute pump swap for me,,,, that e4od trans has been getting upgrades ever since its introduction in 89,, the final upgrades in 96, to me they are still garbage, 5 solenoids electric sht,, looking for a beefed up c6 , my next project, but for now i have like 20 projects in front to deal with,, have too many motorcycles lol
