Driving with bad EGR Cooler

If you have a bad/leaking EGR cooler the antifreeze is being drawn into the intake manifold and the engine cylinders. Since antifreeze does not compress you can get high cylinder pressures that will stretch head bolts, causing leaking head gaskets, bend connecting rods, etc.
Mine failed a 1/4 mile from home and I drove home very slowly. Afterwards I thought I should have released the cooling system cap to relieve pressure on the cooler but the engine was still cold so I think I got lucky.
