driving 5 miles a day it prob will last for years. Dad has a chevy z71 with 350,000 miles and the cambearings are shot,( same issues you are haveing ) he drives it about 200 miles a year and its been that way now for 15 yrs, Ive been on him that long to rebuild it.LOL but its still going. If I owned that truck and drove it under normal conditions it would be blown up in a week.
I'm sure I'll manage to blow it up. Its going to make a 50 mile round trip out to a hunting spot next week and it'll probably die on me at 5am headed out there...but dangit, i'm huntin.
In all seriousness though, how large a project is it to replace the cam bearings, and is that the way you would do it, or is there a better way?
I had same issue for two years and drove 600 miles round trips. I sold that truck to a local guy and he hasn't had any issues in past year. For all I know I might have had a fouled sending unit or just a gunked up engine. As the other guys here said, change the sender. If nothing changes try installing a mechanical oil pressure guage and see where your pressure is (10 PSI per 1000 RPM). If needed clean out the crankcase with Seafoam. I presume that if you hear engine knock then you really need new bearings. Good luck hunting.
