Hey Folks,
I've been away for a bit. My Father; my best friend passed away Thursday morning.
He was a good man........5 little words that encompass a world.
John A Johnson Jr born in Clyo,GA was a 4th generation only son (this fact could have made him exempt from service) a member of a Emporia,VA guard unit that after Dec.7th enlisted in the regular army. The guard unit became part of the 116th Infantry 29th Division, Company M.
The 29th was assigned to take what turned out by a quirk of fate to be the most heavily defended beach of D-Day(yes there were more terrian difficult landing sites) the 29th made up of a good number of VA guard units had the most casulties of the offensive.
He was in Korea and Viet Nam, in combat and under direct fire in both; 2 Combat Infantry Badges, a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf clusters and chest full more.
He was a unassuming man who took care of his family....there were times I wanted things, but I never lacked for anything.
He taught me how to turn a wrench, to build ...... to be a man.
Poppa John and his generation, were and still are the last of the SELFLESS who with blood and lives changed a world................
I will miss him.
Yall take care and MERRY CHRISTMAS

Thanks Steve
Poppa John's service will be this afternoon at 2pm and tomorrow we will inter him in the family plot in Clyo GA with a military honor guard.
I hope your folks are still with you. If they are give them a call,a hug and a kiss. Tell them that you love them. Time is so fleeting.......
Merry Christmas everyone
