Hey guys, I realize this question isnt really related to our year range of trucks, but you guys have a ton of knowledge about Ford products and I know you will know.
I found on craigslist not too far from me a 91 F250 extended cab 4x4 with a 351, owner says it ran great till the tranny went out and he hasnt started it since. He claims it needs a transmission and a rearend. I havent talked to him personally and for all I know with the price he had on it he may have sold it, but if he hasnt I am going to think seriously about buying it, he was asking $600 obo. I figure I cant go wrong with that price even if it takes 1500 to get it back going.
My question is, if it isnt the 5 speed manual, what auto tranny would it be? Ford killed the C6 when they went fuel injected didnt they? I thought when they went Fuel injected the heavy trucks got an OD, I didnt think it would be an E40D because 1991 would be a little early for that, and I didnt know if it would be an AOD because I thought those were only in cars and in F150's. I was just curious as to what tranny it might be so I could do a little research on how much a new tranny would be if he still has it. Thanks guys
I know in 89 you could get the E4OD. That is Ford's large overdrive automatic. If you find you have this tranny, get a rebuild from Ford or get someone to rebuild it with 95-up upgrades and the tranny will do pretty good. The early ones had a few problems that were eventually fixed by Ford by 1995.
