2003 F250......Tire rubbing front brake line

I posted this in the Super Duty section but no response as of yet so I thought I'd post here for a quicker reply.

I noticed yesterday that my tire on the driver's side has rubbed a flat spot on the rubber brake hose. I bent the metal tubing so that it doesn't rub any more, but should this be of great concern? Obviously I'd hate for it to rupture, but it looks as though it's not too bad.

It doesn't look too bad, but man, it's one of those things...it may hold, if it doesn't you are going to kick yourself for not changing it out. It probably isn't something that you have to rush right out and do like it's an emergency, but it is something I would do sooner, rather than later. I would recommend against any kind of towing or heavy hauling until it's done.

Yes, I agree. Hard to say. The moment everyone says, "it's not a problem" is when the hose lets go. Something like that would alway nag at me until I replaced it but that's just me.

That does not look bad to me. I've driven with worse for years back when I had clapped out cars and no money. Ever try cutting one? Brake hoses are pretty tough. OTOH, I recently went to ss braided hoses to avoid just such a problem, that would be my recommendation.

I'm sure I'll replace it and soon rather than later. It's going to always bug me until I get it replaced. It looks like it just barely made it through the ribs and didn't get much deeper, but it's now a weak spot. I just don't know how thick these hoses are though.

The OEM hoses are pretty thick, agree w/ the others & I'd be thinking about that rubbed spot in the line every time I hit the brakes. Get a set of armored lines - they're a few $$ more but can stand up to minor abrasions. While your at it look at all of the hard & flex lines on the truck. I blew the hard line to the rear axle christmas eve - blew through a stop sign but nobody got hurt. Had to replace the flex from the frame to the axle plus all the hard line from the connection just below the firewall all the way to the rear.

Our trucks are really starting to show their age!!

Once I started really looking I decided to replace all the flex lines since I had to bleed the whole system anyway.
