How reliable is the V10?

16 years now. 250,000 + miles. The only work on the V10 is fluid changes and spark plugs. The only work to the engine, fuel system and cooling system has been plugs. One blown plug repaired with a timesert and Fuel Pump. That is it no alternator, AC compressor, water pump. Oh one new belt just because.
It is my daily driver and I pull a 30ft travel trailer with it.
BEST TRUCK I EVER HAD.

F-250 Triton V10 400,000mi
I am shopping around for an Excursion 4x4. It seems that the majority are V10's, then a lot of 6.0 diesels, I am finding some 7.3's around still with very high milage. I am not towing anything with it but do need the people mover capabilty.
How reliable is the V10? Can it handle a lot of miles? Most I am seeing now are at or near 100k.

I have a F-450, with the V-10, and automatic. It is in my daily driven tow truck. I have a Century 412 tow unit on it. I have towed veeeerrrry heavy loads. I.E. Extremely lifted, oversized tires, 4 door, long bed chevy/dodge pick ups. Other than making sure the fluids are topped off on a regular basis, and changing oil and transmission fluids regularly, (even though it may not need it), and keeping up on basic maintenance, I have had no issues with the truck, other than a bad A/C clutch and bearing. Truck is an 01, with 165,xxx miles. Previous truck was a 2000, same drivetrain, never had an issue with it either.

We have an '03 F-250 with about 47K miles. Had to have the rear end rebuilt, but no problems with the engine (as to be expected apparently). It has been maintained according to factory recommendations. From what I see here it looks like I can expect to be using it for quite some time. BTW I love driving it - cruises @ 80 mph and surges forward when I step on it. No buyer's remorse here.

If anyone is still around I am still driving my 2001 V10. Except for dumb asses running into the truck it is still going strong. V10 no problems. Did my second brake job. Need to do plugs but have not taken the time. No engine work. It needs an oil change otherwise nothing to do.
Wish the body was in the great shape of the engine. The only problem is I am 65 and forgetting how to work on engines I am not getting any practice. Except for that D&m mower. :-}

I am 71 and no longer care to work on engines. I'm not a mechanical ignoramus (built a '41 Indian Chief in the living room) but the new vehicles are way beyond me.I can afford to pay somebody who knows more about it than I do (thank God!) so it's worth it, especially since arthritis makes getting under a vehicle more difficult.
Anything newer than our 2003 F250 is beyond my ken. Our '14 Hyundai 2.0 Turbo may as well be the Millenium Falcon as far as my ability to do anything on it. (The shop manual costs $500!)
I expect to enjoy our truck for many years to come. Except for gas mileage the Scharnhorst meets my needs for a pick-em-up truck and then some, and it is paid off. The new trucks arouse no desire in my heart (Aluminum? Really?), and you can buy a LOT of gas for the $40-40K a decent new 3/4t. truck costs.

Gas tank and oil consumption
You are right about the gas tank size. But to be honest, the 29 gallon on my short tank is good for at least 250 miles on the highway. That is longer than I can drive without getting out to stretch!
Interstate driving that is not a problem. If you do a lot of back road driving I would consider keeping 10 gallons or so in the bed. I would change to the bigger transflow tank but the cost is not worth it to me.
