I have not had any issues from mine other than regular wear and tear and maintenance.

101K on my 2004...new to me last year.

I added 4" Zone lift, wheels, tires, stereo, back up cam, etc.

Headers and new gears coming this fall.

Reliable thus far, rides straight as an arrow at 80 mph.

Smile every time I fire it up.

16 years now. 250,000 + miles. The only work on the V10 is fluid changes and spark plugs. The only work to the engine, fuel system and cooling system has been plugs. One blown plug repaired with a timesert and Fuel Pump. That is it no alternator, AC compressor, water pump. Oh one new belt just because.

It is my daily driver and I pull a 30ft travel trailer with it.

BEST TRUCK I EVER HAD.

F-250 Triton V10 400,000mi

How reliable is the V10? Can it handle a lot of miles? Most I am seeing now are at or near 100k.
I have had no issues with my F-250, sitting at 439,000 miles regarding maintenence and tune-ups as needed no upgrades, all original

I have a F-450, with the V-10, and automatic. It is in my daily driven tow truck. I have a Century 412 tow unit on it. I have towed veeeerrrry heavy loads. I.E. Extremely lifted, oversized tires, 4 door, long bed chevy/dodge pick ups. Other than making sure the fluids are topped off on a regular basis, and changing oil and transmission fluids regularly, (even though it may not need it), and keeping up on basic maintenance, I have had no issues with the truck, other than a bad A/C clutch and bearing. Truck is an 01, with 165,xxx miles. Previous truck was a 2000, same drivetrain, never had an issue with it either.

We have an '03 F-250 with about 47K miles. Had to have the rear end rebuilt, but no problems with the engine (as to be expected apparently). It has been maintained according to factory recommendations. From what I see here it looks like I can expect to be using it for quite some time. BTW I love driving it - cruises @ 80 mph and surges forward when I step on it. No buyer's remorse here.

If anyone is still around I am still driving my 2001 V10. Except for dumb asses running into the truck it is still going strong. V10 no problems. Did my second brake job. Need to do plugs but have not taken the time. No engine work. It needs an oil change otherwise nothing to do.

Wish the body was in the great shape of the engine. The only problem is I am 65 and forgetting how to work on engines I am not getting any practice. Except for that D&m mower. :-}

I am 71 and no longer care to work on engines. I'm not a mechanical ignoramus (built a '41 Indian Chief in the living room) but the new vehicles are way beyond me.I can afford to pay somebody who knows more about it than I do (thank God!) so it's worth it, especially since arthritis makes getting under a vehicle more difficult.
Anything newer than our 2003 F250 is beyond my ken. Our '14 Hyundai 2.0 Turbo may as well be the Millenium Falcon as far as my ability to do anything on it. (The shop manual costs $500!)
I expect to enjoy our truck for many years to come. Except for gas mileage the Scharnhorst meets my needs for a pick-em-up truck and then some, and it is paid off. The new trucks arouse no desire in my heart (Aluminum? Really?), and you can buy a LOT of gas for the $40-40K a decent new 3/4t. truck costs.

V10 rated 10

I have a 2000 and a 2002 V10. I couldn't be more pleased with that engine transmission set up I had gotten over 225000 miles without any problems I'm kind of **** about maintenance. I have buddies that have over 300000 miles on them, and no complaints. I don't know why I get better gas mileage than most people say . I have used the proper equipment to measure it. Highway at 60 miles an hour I get 14.5 mpg, towing..7000lbs awesome.. about 9.5. It is better then getting a diesel they don't run any longer in the V10 you don't do any better on a diesel, because diesel is 50 cents a gallon more in only get the 5 miles to a gallon better. My advice enjoy the V10 you won't find a better motor

One thing to be aware of is the v10s can like to drink oil and Ford says upto a quart every 1000 miles is ok. It seems to depend on how they were broken in from what I have read. I have one that does this.

Gas tank and oil consumption

Interstate driving that is not a problem. If you do a lot of back road driving I would consider keeping 10 gallons or so in the bed. I would change to the bigger transflow tank but the cost is not worth it to me.
first of all my tank is 40+ gallons so 500 plus miles.usually average 11.5 town,, 15 highway. But I do not push it hard, most times going faster only saves you 5 min or so. Oil consumption...yes a quart every thousand, so I figure replacing a quart that much I push my oil changes to 5000 miles. I'm well over 200,000 miles. NO ISSUES. But I'm a maintenance freak, with higher miles replace before it breaks. Mostly driivelines..bearing ,suspension ectera.buy another v10...no brainer... I have 2..excursion, f350hd but that one spun a main bearing at 137k.easy fix, can be done from underneath

FYI, mine burned (or consumed) quite a bit more oil with 5W-20 compared to 5W-30. I ran the thinner blend for a couple of years before switching to 5W-30. Consumption dropped fairly significantly.
