Really, Scott? What kind of noise?

My 6.4L(and 6.7L) never had trouble with misfiring, but it was obvious it was NOT happy at those temperatures. The engine operation itself was much louder than usual but it did run smoothly.

I just ran down and started my new truck to see how well it would do at 5°F. Just like the 6.4L it started like a champ, but unlike the 6.4L it immediately idled up to 1200 RPMs.

When shifted into gear it dropped down before engaging the transmission, but this thing seems real quick to idle up.

Well Tom that was what I mean't, just louder than when warm. Mine does run smooth as well.

That's good to hear! Hearing how loudly these things run when cold is a constant reminder to me how amazing these new engines are.

You can't change physics, and the diesel combustion cycle clearly doesn't work well in the cold. But the fact that these modern ones do it so well without any trouble still amazes me.
