Strange "stain" around sunroof

I have a strange looking stain that's developed around the sunroof. The sunroof doesn't leak, I've tested it. While this stain looks wet, it isn't. I've tried various cleaning agent and nothing changes. The strangest is that it's even around the edge of the trim.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The stain is most likely from the bonding agent or glue used to hold the fabric. The headliner must have been replaced at some time in the past.

Guess there's not much that can be done, other than having it replaced again?

The truck is 2nd hand to me... I've examined the headliner and I can't see any evidence of it being replaced... but it's entirely possible.

First... Welcome to the site.

Sorry to tell you this, your sunroof DOES leak, ALL sunroofs leak. That is water stains, a lot of us that have a sunroof have this stain. If the drains remain clear you will never know that the roof leaks. However if they get the slightest bit clogged that is when you get the stains because the water cant drain. I bet you get a musty smell when it rains too, or how about a damp carpet right beside the door sill on both or one side directly under the corner of the dash. All these symptoms are how I found out mine had a clogged drain.
Heres a little test for you...
1. Get a container that holds water, and fill it - A 20oz bottle works great
2. Open sunroof and stand on running board
3. Pour the water in either front corner of the open roof
4. Notice how long it takes to drain

Mine were slightly clogged and drained very slow, blew them out with an air compressor. They now drain so fast they make a sucking sound as the water rushes out.

I will second the glue theory . I also have the stains on my headliner , and mine has never been replaced. The stain is to even all the way around to be from a leak on your pictures as well as mine . Mine never has leaked either.

My moon roof leaked and I do not have that stain. The stain is too uniform to be a leaking roof. There are no natural straight lines or geometric shapes in nature, they are all man made and the staining that I see is just too neat to be an accident of nature. I think that the headliner was replaced by a shop that used a glue that bled through the fabric over a period of weeks or months.
Take the truck to a good trim shop and get their opinion. The price I got recently from a good local shop was for $135.00 installed for my Mark VIII. The truck will be a bit more for materiel but the labor should be less.

2005 EXP EB here.. Have the same stain. No blocked drains.. So I'd vote for the glue stain idea.. No wet floors, or smells either.. Just my 2 cents though..

As there seems to be more than just one person with the same stain I now think that it was a bad batch of glue that was used in production by Ford. If someone that has the stain and is the original owner chimes in we might know the answer.

Similar

I have a 2005 Ford F-150 and I have a very similar stain and when I cleaned it with carpet cleaner it went away but it slowly came back so I'm not sure if it's just the glue or not.

Have Similar Stain on 2008 F150 .......

Hi there.

I just noticed on my sons f150 (bought it for him last year in mint condition) that I have the same stain around the moonroof. Could it be the heat this summer and the glue getting "wetish"?
