C4 Valve Body Question

I am rebuilding a C4 transmission and did my first bone headed move. I took care to keep each of the springs and valves that came from each hole separate so I would know where each set goes....but...I didn't pay enough attention to the 2-3 backout valve. It has two springs that are the same diameter and one is just slightly longer than the other. Does anyone by chance know whether the longer or shorter spring goes down the port/hole first? Thanks.

Chump, dude, you are the man. Thanks. I had posted this elsewhere and gotten similar information (slightly different lengths) but it reinforces what I have seen on three occasions now which is.....large spring in first. You guys take a slightly stressful situation (hard to get this info) and make it all go away. Thank you.

One other thing. I had lost 1st to 2nd a long time ago and was driving in "Drive 2" for over a year. I thought that this gear went from 2nd, into 3rd and back. Is it true I was driving in 2nd all along?

Glad it helped out. As for your question, I hate to say it, but yes, you've been driving around in 2nd only. In order to get 3rd you would need to shift manually from 2nd into D. "Green Dot" C4's (1964-66) had the D2 2-3 upshift and 3-2 downshift.
