The tip off that my truck came from somewhere in the rust belt was the "Ziebart" sticker in the back window and numerous "Ziebart" plugs in the door openings. It has this waxy looking stuff coating in many places. The spring perches, especially the rears, do have rust flaking but are still solid overall.
I'm very familiar with cars from the NE. I've seen some beautiful classic cars that were immaculate from the belt line up but practically had no floors.

Wait a minute!! I always thought floor pans and rocker panels were factory installed options that people just didnt order here in the NE .. are you telling me that they werent an option at all?? LOL yes rust is our enemy here in the NE and its only getting worse since they started using Calcium Chloride on the roads here now...
I am sorry to say but almost every truck or car I have ever had the pleasure of owning with those little plastic Ziebart plugs stuck everywhere were also the worst "rotboxes" I ever had the pleasure of owning...... I have found that the completely non undercoated cars seem to hold up best around here if you wash them underneath but unfortunately I have found nothing that helps a Ford Truck unless you park the damn thing in a climate controlled garage and never take it out...

Which trucks have the cross member? Is it a 2wd - 4wd thing?

Rustproofing by Ziebart will always make your vehicle rust faster!!... Key to surviving the salt is constantly wash and clean and WAX..

It looks like it has drop brackets for a lift. I bet that was a contributing factory.

the reason they crack like that is that it had the crap beat out of it , with big lift and tires
and idiots for drivers what other problems do you think you might find hidden ?
let the guy keep his own masterpiece !!

This happened to a friend of mine, a fellow fte member on his 94 f150. It keeps coming back. It had that problem when he got it and fixed it and it was good for quite sometime. Recently it failed again and fixed it, to then put big tires on and it didn't last long.

Weld it up good all over again and then fish plate over the cracks. My question is what the hell were they doing? Jumping it?

WOW you got bigger problems than you think mister!!... Yep bad frame and the truck is actually loaded on my trailer as we speak ready to go to the scrap yard.....

To the Original poster of this thread-----------this generation truck is pretty easy to find so unless that truck in the photos is an extremely good deal with a lot of great parts that can justify the extremely great price I recommend you keep looking as there are still some very nice examples of these trucks to be had at great prices......
I realize that this is an old thread, but I just found out that I have the exact same problem. My 95 f150 wouldn't turn correctly and while I was driving home, the front passenger u joint seized up and snapped my outer axel shaft. So I just went and bough a new axel from a junk yard today. Then whIle me and my brother were looking at it, I turned the wheel and he noticed that the bumper was moving when I did so. Turns out the frame right by what I'm assuming to be the steering box is cracked.

So from your experience with that guy that had the same issue, the truck is not fixable, and i should probably just start looking for another truck, correct?
