installing air compressor, can't find ignition-only wire
how do I find a wire that is only hot when the ignition is on?
I am installing an air compressor for the air bags. I need to find an ignition-only wire to power it. I've tried the cigarette lighters but they are hot with the ignition off. 2004 F-350 6.0L DRW
Depending on the size of the compressor, it may be easier and safer to run straight to the battery. Fuse the line, install a solenoid, with a toggle switch.
I don't know if your year truck is different, but I have an 01. In my fingertips, in the pic is my ignition on hot wire. It is with my pass through wires. You can see the red, blue, white, and black pass through wires. Mine were under the dash just above the hump in the middle. The ignition on hot wire had the heat shrink on it, and the pass through wires did not. I hope this helps. Here is a pic.
