1992 460 Exhaust Question

Howdy,
I would like to let my 460 breathe a little easier, and hopefully get a little better mileage. I want to remove the Catalytic, or at least punch it out if it is plugged. The truck is a s quiet as a Buick. However it looks to me like there is an O2 sensor IN the cat. Right in the middle on top. There is one before it as well. I don't want to take an O2 sensor out of the engine management system.
Antone know the specifics of theses?
Thanks a lat.
Django.

I forgot to mention it is a 1992 F-250. I have it tined up as well as I can at the moment. It runs OK, but gets about 7 MPG. I want to do better. I want to advance the timing as well as the exhaust, but the distributor is frozen. It has been soaking in P-Blast for a couple of days.

Nothing? Upon further inspection, they look like EGR tubes of some sort. Can anyone tell me what these tubes are and how to get rid of them properly?

On top of the cat, it should be a air injection tube, going back to the smog pump. The O2 sensor is on the top of the front pipes right before the cat, in a cross tube. You can eliminate the air tube if you're gutting the cat, but you must retain the O2 sensor.

We have an 88 460 with california emissions so could be different.
Our Cat was clogged so worker cut the ends off it and fitted in a test pipe where it was. Bung for O2 senser was welded into the front behind an air pipe from the engine smog pump so O2 sensor sees exhaust.
Computer does not complain and runs fine - the cat.
I will replace the cat when I get rest of truck completed to get it smog legal, but so far as running there is no issue.
If you are only getting 7 mpg empty it is a sick puppy or you are over driving it.
My brother has a 93 dully that he drives hard and gets about 10.
We have an 88 SRW work truck 460 that gets about 9-10 empty around town.
I think the 93 is a little better than the 88 because of the 4 speed od tranny.

That makes sense. There are 2 tubes one in the center top of the cat, the other one on top closer to the engine. They go up into the engine compartment, One goes to a vacuum looking pod and a series of hoses, then down the front of the engine, the other one goes down the front of the engine as well, and I guess connect to the air pump? The O2 is in the little crossover just before the cat as you said.
