We bought a 2004 EB in September. It is in great condition and seems to have been well taken care of. One thing I thought that was unusual is that it has no roof rack. That was one thing considered in negotiating the price...believing I would have to find one in a wrecking yard if we decided we needed one.
After looking closer at a few Expeditions on the road, I am starting to think that it isn't missing, but that a previous owner replaced it with some specialty rails for roof accessories (bike racks, ski racks, etc.)
Is that possible?
It doesn't have the side rails or cross bars that I see on other expeditions, but it does have a black slotted track mounted on each side where the side rails would be.
Does this sound like it might be part of an aftermarket rack system, or does the standard 2004 Expy rack attach to slotted tracks like this?

My 04 has the factory rack and it has slotted tracks down each side and the cross rails mount to that and are ajustable front to back. Sounds like you might just be missing the cross rails from yours.

 

My garage was low, so I had to shift my rack to get it to fit, but others might have removed the rack.

 

After looking at photos of more expy's on line, I realize you are probably right. I think I am just missing the cross bars.
I have found info on line that apparently some people remove them to try and get better high way fuel economy.
I guess I will search some wrecking yards.
