i have an 88 bronco. when i drive at 50 to 70 mph the trans is in and out of overdrive. no power in overdirve going up hills. when it does stay in overdrive i feel a vibration. in dirve at 65 its at about 3000rpms is this normal it drops in overdive but very uncomfortable since the vibration. will i really save that much gas driving in overdrive?
You should get much better mileage in OD than in drive. However, with the problems it sounds like you're having , you probably aren't going to see much difference until you get things fixed.
I have an 88 as well and it likes to move back and forth from drive to OD. But now that I put my headers and exhaust on it doesnt search as bad if at all. What motor is in yours, ive got the 302 and frankly mine is way tired so i figure that has a lot to do with it. My goal this summer is to try and rebuild it and try and get some more grunt out of it. You might go into the control panel and fill out your signature with info on your truck , it really helps us help you.
it has the 302 and doesnt seem tired at all. 130,000 miles just gave it a complete tune up. so i dont think power is the issue. im not sure how to put my info on the control panel. to better explain my problem. runs great at all speeds in drive. in overdrive though it feels like it is unbalanced or something. all ball joints and tires new steering a little sloppy at higher speeds saw the steering box screw post on this site but havent done that yet. but my problem feels like its in the transmission. Or driveline not wheels or bearings or anything. it almost feels like the overdrive is to tall a gear for it i have 31x10.5 15 tires.
