whats the difference between the earlier low pinion d60 and the later high pinion d60??
And a stupid question, how do you tell the d60 from the d44 apart? bolth front and rear... I could probly figure it out on my own, but what could it hurt to ask!

Although the dana 60 an obviously much larger unit its easy to tell difference if you know them, but look into the forward facing webbing around the front cover there will be a 60 cast into the housing here if its a dana 60 I dont know about the 44s as I have never actually paid much attention to them....

Are you planning on towing with the 8 lug? Are you looking for more weight capacity? Are you just looking for a stronger axle for more performance? I had an F100 then swapped the engine into a Crewcab F250, I was surprised at the difference in the frame strength. the 250 has a thicker and overall stronger frame. Putting bigger axle may not increase the weight capacity of the truck itself, you probably wont have any problems until you crack or bend the frame. May be a better option to find an F250 and swap the body.
