Duplicolor Spray Bed liner ... on a DYI Dash top?
Anybody here every use the Duplicolor rattle can bed liner?
I don't want to use it in the bed ...
If this stuff cures into a hard "plastic-y" finish ... and not a tar-y "undercoat" kinda finish ... I might like to use it to cover a DIY Dash Top made out of MDF.
Does it cure with a texture?
Can you paint over it?
Will it stand up to heat and sunlight?

I've used some on a tailgate.
It takes a good few days to fully cure. But when its cured its fairly tough. Should be more than fine for dash pad.
Although it will fade over time sitting in sun. But i see no reason why it wouldnt be paintable. Might give it a coat of white paint beforehand if your doing a light color.

I don't know how the Duplicolor bed liner would turn out if rolled on but awhile back I fixed up a dash by rebuilding the damaged speaker dash perforation with plastic which was glued in with urethane. The dash pad was cleaned and minor splits repaired (urethane again). I then had the dash sprayed at a Line-x shop and this is what I ended up with. The texture is coarser than I thought I'd get, probably because a critical amount needs to be sprayed for the reaction to take place. Anyway, it's in the truck until my other dash goes in. I think it'd be great for a mud truck.

That looks good to me. IMO: that is the worst place for a speaker to be and the biggest cause of dash problems there is. I've been considering a Coverlay cap after having seen some photos of one installed on one of the members' Ford, but I have an old dash to 'work on' that I might try your idea on first. Getting that stupid hole 'healed' is the #1 priority.

Not a bad result!
That speaker hole is pretty worthless, since these days there's almost nothing worth turning an AM radio on to listen anyways.
My factory dash pad is pretty bad, but I picked up another that needs minor repair along with the speaker hole delete and a respray in the correct color. After seeing the above photo, I might try one of those bed liner products. I sure won't be putting in the bed, as I use a thick, heavy rubber mat in there.

Funny, im about to finish my dash cover also, and i had a can of SEM paint i planned to use since i used it on all my other peices. But i think i might end up just giving it a coat of the bedliner. There are a few cracks that i feel might show up in a few years or so and i think the bedliner would keep them from doing that.
So thanks for the new idea.
