Another power steering question?

i hate to ask another question about power steering, but i am still having problems, i have replaced the gear box, (because of breakage) replaced power steering pump, right after gear box, the pump was making a lot of noise and could not turn wheel very easy, replaced to hoses from pump to boost and boost to gear. after all that and new fluid, the pump is still very noisy. is it possible that i got a bad pump? is there anything else that would cause that? it seems very hard to steer in parking lot. the brakes still seem to be working fine. any ideas?

When I added my external fluid filter, I found that I needed to "top off" the reservoir many times over the next few days. I would know to add some when I heard the familiar "pump whine".

How's the fluid level in yours?

You probably have air in the system. The best way that I have found to get the air out is to fill the reservoir, jack up the front end of the truck and turn the steering wheel slowly (with the engine off) from bump stop to bump stop until you no longer have any air come out. It will probably have fluid come out of the reservoir along with the air so you may have to refill the reservoir a couple of times. If you run the pump with air in the system, it may damage it.

Another thing that you might do is check for leaks. If you have a small leak, it may introduce air into the system and cause it to whine.

I agree... there is air in the system.. follow the instructions on the following link.. I suggest using Mobil 1 AFT Mecron .. (not don't use power steering fluid)..

No it won't work out. You have to go to full lock both ways about a dozen times each way. Then start it up and see what it does. If you run it with air it can cause premature pump failure.

I believe you also need to pump the brake some too, while your turning it slowly, lock to lock.
