People with 7.3L over 200K miles??
#17
How many people here have a F250/350 that has a 7.3L in it and put over 200K on their truck? Any posts with current milage and and problems you've had would be great.
Im thinking about buying a 02 F250 XL with a 7.3L and 198,000 miles on it. They are only asking $4500. So I figured that was cheap for a diesel.
I cant afford much more then that and need a daily driver that will last for a few more years without a bunch of problems. I also want to be able to pull my mud truck with it and not have to worry about any major problems. So i figured diesel would be the way to go for anything with high miles.
Heres a link to the truck incase yall want to check it out...
2002 Ford F250 XL Super Duty Turbo Diesel...CHEAP!!
Any input...yay's or nay's...and common problems would be nice to know before I get myself into something I regret!
Thanks in advance guys!

I got $8,500 for trade on my '00 with 196k miles. Now my truck was primo, fresh paint and no mechanical issues. Standard wear out items (brakes, water pump, ball joints, axle seals, etc.) had been timely replaced.
I would ask for the maintenance records and really take a close look.

I've got about 347,000 on my 7.3. Had to replace a starter, couple of alternators, couple of o-rings, and fix a chaffed wire. My wife sold her 7.3, then later decided she wanted it back. When looking for used, I think it's wise to ignore the odomoter reading and pay more attention to how the vehicle was maintained and taken care of. The weakest stock design is the air box. Take the top off the air filter and look inside the lid and the hose going back to the turbo. Is there any sign of dirt or dust in there? If yes, then you may be looking at a dusted turbo or engine. If it's spotless, read the this thread for other things to check. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...questions.html Keep in mind that for the oil pan to be removed, the engine has to be pulled, so if you live in the rust belt, also check the oil pan for rust.
When we bought another 7.3 for my wife, we passed over trucks with 85,000 miles or so and opted for one with 169,xxx on it because it was better taken care of. The 85k truck was at a Ford dealer and had passed their 75 point inspection (but had grass inside the intake), the 170k truck we found on craigslist for a very reasonable price that has been flawless in over a year of driving.

is a 2000 7.3 with 321k miles worth the investment of 7k
Im looking at a new truck as my last Fords have been taken too early from me. 1 my 99 f250 v10 with 75k original miles stolen, and now my 05 f150 crew cab hit by a drunk drive and totaled in front of my house. I have seen a 00 f250 4x4 7.3L with 321K for 7K, is a good investment. What is to be expected for a 7.3 at that mileage. I have always wanted to upgrade to a diesel but nervous to take the plunge. any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you like it after you have checked it out go for it. that is not many miles on a 7.3 & they really r bullet proof. here is proof if I can get these pics to post. I replaced eng. & trans @712,234 miles & still going. would get n it rite now & go anywhere I wanted & pull up 36,000lbs.
2000 7.3 dually
this truck has ran as long as three months w/o being cut off but for having the oil changed. It is still a rockNot bragging , just stating a fact
