I repainted my grille due to chips in it and I never saw any chrome under it. It was the same color as yours. I don't think you are going to find any chrome you are at the plastic already. I would tape it up and repaint it black. I am not sure why his was chrome?

 

his might have been one of those chrome e-bay grills that someone painted to make it look stock. he did say his grandfather had a fender bender....something about the fender not fitting right around one of the new headlights.

 

I kinda like the chrome over my stock look.

 

look on ebay. they are cheap.

 

Looking real nice!!! Looks like a different truck just changing the headlights...i have a 2000 ford F250 7.3L turbo diesel and i have work truck headlights now but i'd love to change to the 05-07 headlight just like those! Your truck looks great with them!!!

 

I think the grille he stripped was an aftermarket replacement grille, which are all chrome with painted over center sections which chip and peel easily. The other grille which has no chrome on the center part is oem.
