My name is Kyle... and I am an addict.

Where do I start?

When I was 12 my uncle came into our lives with a marlin blue and primer 1965 ford F-100. His craftsman roll around and Harley low rider were in the back. This was the coolest thing I ever saw. Not long after my dad bought a red and white 1966 custom cab with a 302 and straight pipes. I loved these trucks. Then I was given my 63 ranchero to build at 14. My dad and uncle started teaching me more than just doing the sanding.

Flash forward quite a few old trucks to the ripe age of 28 and I had my own 1965 ford truck from the original owner with a straight 6. I had it until about thirty and wiped out the bed when the axle snapped flush at the backing plate. I never went sideways so fast in my life. The light pole did most of the body damage. My dad and I replaced the rear end and put an okay bed on it. Four months later I wrapped the truck around an oak tree at 53 mph. We built another truck out of 9 different ones in 8 days to make my next daily driver. It was satin black with red wheels. I drove it about a year and decided to cut the roof off and put a roll bar in it to look like a full sized bronco. More people tried to buy that p.o.s. from me than any nice truck I ever owned. People always wanted to go for rides in it or called and asked me to bring it over to parties. There sure are a lot of weird people in the world.

I bought an original owner 1979 ford truck. I started tearing it down while driving it. I bought & drove a 90 chevy 454 clone for awhile and then got a 1961 unibody from a good friend of mine. He had his guy pick it up and put it in his junk pile to scrap. I bought it for cheap. I pulled it to my dads house and gave it to him. I bought my 83 daily driver that I have now.

I have lost interest in my 79 and really want my old truck back. I went to my dad and asked if I could have the 1961 truck back. He said no problem. Of course this has been about three years since I gave it to him.

It has been sitting. We put a battery in it, some gas in the tank, air in the tires, and cranked it up. We drove it out of the weeds. We have been working on the body for about two weeks now and are about ready to paint it. It is not a restoration, just a refreshing to make it presentable at the house and customers houses. The old girl is running great and has a/c. All the rubbers and felts are pliable also.

When I first joined FTE, I thought this truck was original with 42,000 miles. As I have gotten intimate with it... I now see the light. It is an old restoration. That is why everything is in such good condition and so clean in the mechanics department.

I am hoping to have the outside painted by thanksgiving weekend. I will update the progress as she comes along. She will be my new daily driver and work truck pulling my 4x8 trailer. The 83 is gonna go down the road. I just really miss having my old trucks. 83 is just to new for me.

Thanks for reading. I hope to be a little more helpful for the other addicts and will have some more questions since this will be my first straight axle. I have always had twin I beam.

That's what they tell me they say at Rehab anyway.
But Rehab is for quitters and I'm glad to see you fell off the old wagon!
Cool story.

Lock yourself in a Chevy dealership one night. When the shakes and sweating are over you are ready to come out and join the world...

Hi. My name is Mike. I'm a Ford truck addict. My first was in 1984, a 1979 F100 Custom Explorer. Since then, I've had: 1966 F350 Custom dually w/352, 1984 F250 w/351, 1993 F250 Super Cab diesel, 2003 Excursion V10, and my most recent purchase (three weeks ago) a 2008 Super Duty diesel. I also own a 1985 Crown Vic police car and a 1987 Crown Vic station wagon.

I need help but I have to admit, I drove a Military Chevy Blazer with the 6.2 diesel and loved the truck.
