6.7 turbo troubles?
I parked my RV for the winter and the storage owner liked my 2008 F350,started to ask questions about it. I mentened to him that I have test driven a new 6.7 and I liked it, he mentioned that a friend of his is a diesel mech. at a local dealer and said that he is doing a lot of repairs on 6.7 turbos. Just wanted to know if you all have any problems or knowledge of.

There have been a handful of turbo issues in 100000 delivered trucks... his mechanic buddy must have had them all...A Ford engine design engineer was here for a while and speculated that the noisy turbos were the result of tolerance stacking. No harm, just noise. He did say that Ford was replacing these functional but noisy units.

Mine is in the shop now on its' third turbo replacement. 1st @ 34K, 2nd @ 49K, and now @ 77K.
Mine is a 450 cab/chassis with the single phase turbo. I was at dealer today checking on it, and discovered last two episodes did not include replacing the "Charge Air Cooler" (done at other dealerships while broke down out of town). So this could have something to do with repeated failures.

6.7 turbo troubles
Anyone have any updates, I have a 2011 Ford 6.7 Diesel, noise at idle when it's first started.
Dealer calls it a turbo hoot, it started little over a year ago, around 13,000 miles, now has gotten louder, but stops once warmed up, can't get dealer to warranty it, says its normal, but is suppost to have factory rep come and listed to it again.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I've owned a 2011 and 2012 6.7 totaling about 45k miles use.
The newer truck has been more solid but neither stranded me or required major service so far.
The early model (9/2010 delivery) had that loud intermittent hoot. However common it is, it can't be normal. The '12 is noisy when cold, a constant whine that sounds normal (cold turbo, running rich at high idle I guess).
Both trucks seemed to make normal boost in all conditions FWIW

6.7 turbo troubles
Well the factory rep came to the Dealership this past week and listed to the noise, and the master diesel technition also, they both finally agreed the noise wasn't normal, so they wanted to start the truck again late day and early morning when it does the noise to hear it numerous times, and they did.
Then they ran some other test, changed the grade of oil, still no change, noise still there, so they have ordered a turbo, should be in in a few days.
Will see from there.
