1967 f-100 4WD Disk brake conversion
Hey i am trying to get better braking out of my 67 f-100. A few years back all the brakes were redone by a professional shop and it stopped like it was brand new... which still isn't very well. Before I feel comfortable pulling with this vehicle I would like to see about improving the front drums to disks. Instead of buying a pricey conversion kit, can I pull parts off later models from a junk yard? What parts from what years from what models would I need? Thanks a bunch!

i went and got the whole ends off a 78 f150 with disc brakes put 72 ball joints in them and they work great. i have a d44 in my 72 f100 and you should too. any d44 from a ford or chevy will work you just need to use your year ball joints. O and get the p-valve too you will need that. also do you have power brakes or foot power ones?

yes you can just steal the parts. i stole the whole knuckle,spindle ends and the p-valve. also if you want to convert to power brakes get the power booster and master cylinder and the brackets. but sense you have the 67 you will have to mod the bracket and push rod or brake pedal maybe drill new holes in fire wall too but not to hard to do.

i would find a 73 or later DANA 44 front axle to swap in seems to be the easiest way of doing it and you get all the xtra bennifits of the newer style axle i just picked up a 79 DANA 44 front disc brake axle grab the proportion valve out of the same truck other then that it's a bolt in install

Kingpins are only found in 4x2's, 4X4's actually used bearings, commonly referred to as trunion bearings. As stated above 72 and above used ball joints. I would swap a D44 out of a 76 to 79 F150 4X4 as it will already have the disc brakes. As mentioned earlier make sure you get the combination valve and lines as well. Make sure to use a disc/drum master cylinder. Good luck.

Power front disc brakes were first offered (as standard equipment) in 1976 F100/150/250 4WD's. 4WD was not available after 1976 in F100's.
1975 and earlier 4WD's: Drum brakes only.
F100 2WD: First front disc brakes: 1973 / 1973/79 F100 2WD: Manual disc brakes were standard equipment, power disc brakes were optional.
How many 1959/76 F100 4WD's have kingpins? None. Trunnion bearings (Ford called 'em dampener bearings) 1959/71. Ball joints 1972/76.

I'm wanting to put a 3/4 ton running gear in my 72 F100 4x4 for a diesel swap.
Does anyone know if there are any parts different in performing this swap if one wanted to install a D44 HD 8 lug disc brake outer from a 76-79 D44 HD on the factory 72 F100 4x4 axle instead of the half ton stuff?
