Black Onyx gaskets are a definite weak point, That is if we can believe anything we read here on this site..........I'd seriously consider spending the additional money and staying with the Ford OEM gaskets...........or at least search it out here before you decide.JMHO

FWIW, I personally have no experience with Black Onyx gaskets but I do follow this site and have yet to find a positive statement in their defense....just sayin'

The black onyx coating comes off the gaskets with oil. Honda uses the same coating and it causes oil leaks in the corners of the gaskets all the time.

Personally I don't trust any coating on a metal gasket and use my own, have been for many many years now without a single failure.

Know anyone (or shops) near Minneapolis?

We'll be out in Green Bay (door county) the week of memorial day but I'd rather have it done BEFORE I tow our camper out there.

That's copper coat. It's a spray on application.

^ that is correct. Permatex copper spray. I had a car in the shop once (4 cylinder turbo car) that kept blowing coolant at WOT down the track. ARP studs torqued to nearly twice the OEM head bolt specs, new gaskets, over and over again coolant spraying out under full boost. After copper spraying the USED gasket no more problems! I believe the customer was just over 40psi of boost.

Would it be a good idea to put something like copper spray on our gaskets,I know my engine builder used to put something on nitrous and turbo charged gaskets mainly around the water passages but I can't remember the name of it.

Another common one is hondabond for exactly what you mentioned and I have used it a well for those same things. It expands with heat to seal better.

So should we put this stuff on our 6.0's or just put the gaskets on dry?
