I have a small coolant leak on my 7.3, I kinda thought it could be a bad seal on water pump or seal around it. Someone said today that the 7.3 has a pressure relief type deal that releases water due to pressure build up. Is he full of s or is there a chance he knows what he is talking about?

 

Is your leak coming from behind the water pump pulley? If so its time for a new pump.

Maybe your friend was talking about the weep hole.

 

Most vehicles release coolant when too much pressure builds up. Aside from air cooled engines, I cannot think of a vehicle that does not have some sort of pressure relief in the cooling system.

 

I see some coolant up near the water pump. Not a lot but it is wet.

 

I'd first recommend checking to make sure the thermostat housing is not leaking, then also checking to make sure the tank isn't cracked.
