Best 5 460 mpg improver's:

Lose the keys.
Remove the battery.
Sell it.
Drive the Ranger.
Siphon gas from the U-haul trucks.

A big plus to 10mpg..........You know exactly how far you can drive before filling up:
18 + 19gal = 37 @10mpg = 370 mile range!

Embrace the beast!..... 10mpg isn't so bad when you can pass all the Chevy and Dodge gassers, while loaded with 12,000lbs.........all the way to the next gas station.

I thought it was common knowledge that EFI heads can't be used with a carbed intake and visa versa...guess not.

Yes you can!!! But thats beside the point, without re-engineering the 460 and removing all that smog crap, you'll be lucky to get what you get... your engine wasn't engineered for fuel econonmy, it was engineered for anti polution and to compete with GMs 454!

I give up on my 460, Im going to install a cummins, may cost a little but I think in the long run it will be worth it. Plus I think it would be high on the cool factor. lol Havent decided on what tranny to run for sure yet.

The best way to get fuel economy from a pickup is to buy a diesel or a little old Japanese mini-truck. A Chevy LUV or Ford Courier or Dodge Ram 50 will get 25-30 mpg and carry 3/4 of a ton, but they can't tow our horse trailer. As for my 460... I just fill it up and use it as little as I can get away with. Lately, with my wife's Range Rover broken, it's been driven a lot ($$).

I have a 97 crew cab short box with the 460 it's my primary driver when I'm not in my tow truck and according to the vacuum gauge going down the highway at 100 km/hr with od of on the shifter I can do 15-17 mpg on a light peddle. If town cruising at 40-50 is right around 15 if I take it easy. I got the vaccum mileage gauge on my cowl so it's easy to keep a eye on it

Thats pretty close to what i was getting last year with my 96 crew short bed, we did a 1200 mile round trip with just the rear 14 gal tank. So thats a lot of fill ups!
Each tank was good for 200-225 miles, it worked out to a solid 14-15 MPG and were always going 70-80 MPH
Of course that was 99% highway, the truck is bone stock auto except for a k&n air filter, 3 in straight pipe exhaust w/ no cats and no smog pump.
Though around the city is always in the single digits.

Anybody got any good specs for a cam that will work on a 96 F350 460? RV cam, brand, etc? Someone on the forum said that Comp Cams has one? I want one that the SD computer can handle.
