It was nice to drive my beater 85

I plated my 85 truck again. Changed steering colunm and man does it now steer straight.
The old colunm the shifter lever was all wore out, the key is hard to turn in the cold of winter that you almost break it. The intermiadate rod from steering box to colunm was sloppy. Changed this and man does the truck go straight. Guess that is what you get with an old farm truck.
I worked on the exhaust and got it hanging on proper hangers. Still need to install tailpipe.
But it was nice to drive to th city and back with again. I just don't know what it is about my 85, but I love it more than my 86 ext cab.
It still has its rattles, sloppy rearend. Rusty, dented box. I just seem to enjoy driving that truck more than others.
Has my trusty 300 6cyl. I adjusted the valves and chamged the carb and fixed its throttle base to run better.
It was just nice to get in this truck than running around the yard with.
The Aluminum wheels look nice on her also.
Still lots of things to fix on this truck, but I enjoy it more.
Next spring I'm committing to get my 78 3/4 t on the road. This is long enough withgout a good towing vehicle.

The looks of the truck have not changed much from the pics in the gallery. Still same old truck with more rust spots.

Some trucks are just nicer to drive and you feel more comfortable in than others. My 84 and 90 Rangers were like that, the 98 Ranger Super cab is nice but it`s just not the same.

Your right. I just feel more comfortable with it. I've had this truck nearly 10 years. I know all its quirks and what needs to be done still to it.
Sure there is no radio or A/C, power windows and door locks or cruise or tilt or even intermittent wipers. I just rather have the plain old truck.
But did find something new on it today.
Took a load to the landfill. Kept smelling Antifreeze. Found the rad has a small leak at its seam on the left side. I think I have another rad for it here, so no biggy. But at least this rad won't take 5 hrs to change like the Taurus did.

Yeah I've seen under the hood of the new diesels. Yikes. What not to touch? Everything is just so packed in.
You have a radiator, another one for the transmission, The A/C and the power steering cooler, All fitting in the front before you could get to the water pump for repairs.
You think with all the technology today you could fit all computer and circuits stuff onto a control thta is no bigger than your cell phone. Think about cell ph's today. They do internet, take pictures and video tape. Texting, even watch movies on them. play games. store info on your friends and all your calls. So why can't they get all that into a cellphone size computer? That would take care of alot of the wiring and hoses and extra circuity that could malfunction.

This is sort of when hardware and software get blurred. A phone is more software based. Software is very versatile in use but requires much more processing to do the same job.

Hopefully this example makes sense.
You have a toaster and another in parts. Dedicated hardware is the complete toaster. It will make toast all day but only toast with minumum interaction. Now with software, it has to assemble the parts to make a toaster. It will make the toast the same as the dedicated hardware but took longer because you had to assemble it. However the software could also make a waffle iron instead if you didn't want toast.

Now the next step. Problem is you need to make 5 pieces of toast at once. Hardware will have 5 toasters and can be actuated in fast sucession. Where as software will have to build all five toasters but can only do one at a time.

Automotive components are pretty much all dedicated hardware with minimum software. It makes them very fast and efficient but requires more room and wire. Some sensors are read 300 times a second which hardware is only capable of.

Pros and Cons to any form of technological improvement, I'm just glad we live in this age where we can all have the choice or better yet one of each.
But to me the true beauty of Ford has been it tried and tested rugged simplicity.
Even tho we all know Nathan and I have had our head butting ways it all just depends what you want out of your Ford

one defient con to the advancement as I just expienced. My V10 wasn't shifting well at all and even for a moment would not go out of 1st and 2nd gear, well after hours of diagnosing cause multiple codes came up turn out to be my Camshaft sensor
